what is WPI inflation
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is an index that measures and tracks the changes in the price of goods in the stages before the retail level. It is calculated by taking the price of a selection of wholesale goods and averaging them out. The WPI is used as an indicator of inflation at the wholesale level and is released monthly by the Office of Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It is considered to be a more timely indicator of inflation than the CPI, which measures consumer prices, because it is released on a weekly basis rather than monthly. However, the WPI does not capture the price changes of services, only goods, and so it may not be a complete measure of inflation.
